Many leaders see AI as an excuse to cut junior hires. But as AWS CEO Matt Garman put it recently, that’s one of the dumbest things you can do.

Here’s why:

1️⃣ Juniors are the most AI-native.

They’re often the fastest to adopt new tools, experiment, and push boundaries. Ironically, the ones you’re thinking of cutting might be the ones who help your company scale AI best.

2️⃣ AI is an amplifier, not a replacement.

Seniors bring judgment and context. Juniors bring curiosity and fresh perspective. AI makes both more effective—but only if both exist.

3️⃣ Juniors are your talent pipeline.

If you stop hiring and training them, who will become your seniors in 10 years? You can’t outsource experience to AI.

And this isn’t just theory. A recent MIT report found that some of the most successful AI startups are led by 19–20 year olds—scaling from zero to $20M in a year—because they execute fast, embrace AI natively, and partner smartly.

The real winning formula isn’t AI + senior or AI + junior.

It’s AI + competent employees, regardless of seniority.

Cut juniors today, and you’re not saving costs. You’re bankrupting your future.

👉 What do you think—are companies underestimating the long-term cost of cutting junior talent?
