Should AI tools have age ratings, just like apps, movies and games?
“The way young people are using AI is disappointing.”
“The way young people are using AI is disappointing.”
That’s the headline from a Google DeepMind research scientist in this Times of India article.
And it struck my nerve.
Yes, education needs to be redesigned for the AI era.
But let’s be honest: we can’t push all the burden onto teachers and schools.
Right now, AI is like giving every student a super-smart tutor.
But here’s the problem:
There are 2 types of tutors:
-
The bad ones spoon-feed the answers.
-
The good ones guide your thinking.
AI, in the hands of young students, is becoming the bad tutor now.
It gives answers without teaching thought.
It shortcuts effort without building skill.
This makes me think:
Should AI tools have age ratings, just like apps, movies and games?
Should we train a different model just for kids, one that refuses to give easy answers and instead prompts curiosity and learning?
Let’s stop blaming kids for using the tools we gave them. Let’s build better tools, and set better boundaries.
What do you think: Should AI tools have age ratings?

Claude Code is for software developers, and OpenClaw is more for business users.
A learner said this to another learner during a recent workshop. I think this is the most common and most dangerous misconception about these two tools.
Parents who sit beside their kids for every homework session are not helping them learn.
Growing up, my parents never once sat beside me and my siblings to do homework.
The most plausible bad outcome of AI (or AGI) is not the rise of Skynet.
It is humans quietly outsourcing our intelligence to AI and we eventually lose it.
