"If you're good at badminton, don't train for a tennis competition."

This is something I’ve learned through experience as a serial technopreneur.

I often share this with business owners, sales and marketing teams I work with.

Don’t chase every business opportunity. Don’t respond to every RFP. Don’t try to market everything to everyone.

Because there’s always an opportunity cost to doing things. Time, resources, and focus are limited.

Choosing what NOT to do is part of business strategy. You need clarity on your USP, your core strengths, and the arena where you can play to win.

Clueless teams enter the battlefield first, then try to figure out how to win. Smart teams know they have a high chance of winning BEFORE they step in.

So, before you act, ask: Is this where we can win? Or are we just playing someone else’s game?

Focus isn’t just discipline. It’s strategy. And it’s how great companies scale.

Focus is the difference between playing to win and just playing.
