We often hear that AI is taking over Google as the go-to source of information.

But in my experience, sometimes Google is still faster and better than AI.

Yesterday, I joined a hackathon where one of the submission criteria was to publish code on GitHub. For some reason, I kept hitting an HTTP 400 error when trying to push my code.

A few helpful friends tried to troubleshoot with me. We all turned to our go-to AI agents for suggestions, but none of the solutions worked.

As someone with an engineering background, our pride wouldn’t let us leave the problem unsolved.

Back home, I did a quick Google search and found this StackOverflow answer.

It wasn’t the exact same issue, but it pointed me in the right direction.

In less than 5 minutes, I discovered the root cause: my .gitconfig was defaulting to my company email while I was trying to push the repo to my personal GitHub.

The lesson?

Don’t buy into the hype that you should always ask AI. Sometimes, nothing beats a good old Google search. This isn’t the first time I’ve turned to Google when AI has been unhelpful.

Do you still Google? Have you had a similar experience where Google was better than AI?
